Use an existing melody, chord progression, and/or topic to rewrite a new version of a patient-preferred song or genre.
Activities[]
Lyric Replacement: Hand out pre-existing song lyrics, perhaps singing through once. Then combine songwriting with lyric analysis line by line to rewrite the song. Some lines may still fit the patient's new song.
Piggyback Songwriting: Write altogether new lyrics to the pre-existing melody of a patient-preferred song. For an example, see Roar! Hello Song Adaptation for the adapted lyrics to the Katy Perry song for a fun, patient-preferred self-empowering welcome to your music therapy sessions.
